What a fantastic (and honest!) post! I can see why you are conflicted in your assessment of the book because I also recoiled at the message that somehow by being home with kids I was making a "mistake". Now that I see the argument through your perspective and your experience in hearing the author explain it more thoroughly, it makes me want to run out and read this book. I'm one of those SAHM's who has worked from home even before I was married, so I felt I had things more or less figured out in this area. But I have to do better....get a retirement plan that assumes my husband isn't in the picture (God forbid) and decide what else I can do to create an independent future. Obviously, I'd rather not think of something bad happening, but I need to do it anyway! Thanks for your honest review of the book and the speech...I think I have a trip to Amazon in my future. I had lots of things to say but by the time I finished reading it, I forgot most of what I wanted to say. I definitely want to check this book out now and plan on checking with my local library to see if they have a copy of it. I know that I don't want to be dependent upon another person for financial needs ever again! It isn't a pretty situation depending on someone to meet those needs.
