Setting Up My Blog: Did I Forget Something?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

I have a little confession to make.

I don’t know the first thing about setting up a WordPress blog.

Oh sure, I know how to hit the “publish” button. I can even fiddle with the html code on the sidebars if I want to add a button or two.

But when it comes to actually getting the thing from a) buying a domain name to z) writing my first post…. uhh, no. When people find out I’m a blogger, they assume I’m technically skilled, but the truth is that I have to I hire that stuff out.

But Lynette Chandler knows!

And she just put together this really cool free .pdf called:  Blog Setup Checklist

Now, this isn’t a guide to *promoting* your blog if you already have one. It’s a step by step checklist that takes you from buying that cool domain name to writing and publishing your first posts. Stuff like putting the actual WordPress file on your hosting space, and installing the plugins that make WordPress so awesome to use.

Would that be helpful?

You can get it, again for free, here:  Blog Setup Checklist

When you download the .pdf, I strongly encourage you to visit TechBasedTraining (links in the document) while you’re at it. They have some awesome training to help Virtual Assistants (or really any marketer) expand their skills into the tech arena.

In fact I’m fairly certain that I can do most of the stuff described here in the checklist. I just bought a domain name for my 9 year old son who wants to start blogging. I’ll let you know how I do!

Checklist For Your List

Wow, this is fantastic.

A few days ago I downloaded and read Lynette Chandler’s checklist on setting up your email list. While it’s not technically difficult and I’ve done it dozens of times, it’s a teensy bit tedious and you can easily forget a step.

This checklist is so easy to follow so you don’t miss a thing.

Then Lynette gave me permission to give it to you guys. Ain’t she sweet?

If so, visit Internet Marketing Blogging Boot Camp.

Y’all know I’m a big fan of both Alice Seba and Lynette Chandler.

Both of them have been a huge boost to me as business coaches.
I’ve been learning from Alice since I first started my online business 4 years ago, and Lynette has been a valuable source of information and support both through her blog and her coaching at Mom Masterminds.

These two gals have joined forces to help you get your blog in gear. I highly recommend you sign up for this coaching if blogging is one of your business and marketing tools.

Go here to get on the list. They’re only accepting a few participants in this intensive boot camp style coaching so hurry!

Now I Gotta Get Getting Things Done

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Last month at Mom Masterminds, Tech Diva Extraordinaire Lynette Chandler provided us with a lovely report and audio on productivity guru du jour David Allen’s Getting Things Done system.

I enjoyed it very much and thought it was a system that would work for me very well because I’m a list and paper person. I wrote here about my monthly schedule, and that is still working extremely well for me.

Daily to do lists do not work well for me, a single work at home homeschooling mom of 4. (Wow, I’m tired just typing that.) Trying to force myself to do certain tasks in my business each day will only set me up for disappointment, so I set weekly goals that flow according to a certain monthly schedule.

But this GTD system could work very well inside of mine. I recently watch this Getting Things Done Video and now I am even more motivated to buy the book. Ok, just ordered it on Amazon so I don’t have to write that on a to do list. Since it takes less than two minutes. ;)

And also so I won’t be a hypocrite recommending something to you that I haven’t consumed myself. I don’t do that.

I liked the video a lot and it’s definitely worth listening to while you do something easy on your computer. I like David Allen after watching it.
