I Rarely Do This

Friday, January 11th, 2008

But I’ll make an exception because I think this free report has amazing value.

Armand Morin (yes, THE Armand Morin, the one you’ve heard about if you’ve been online for more than 5 minutes and the guy behind Big Seminar), has just released a report called An Obvious Truth.

I don’t recommend a lot of free reports because many of them are too hype-y or fatalistic for my taste. I’m a simple kind of gal, and that’s one of the reasons I really enjoyed this report. Its simplicity and its truth.

I also learned a couple of neat tricks that I want to immediately put into action!

Armand also has a great writing style. You’ll enjoy it, I promise. Download the report here:

Internet Marketing for Broke Moms

Friday, January 11th, 2008

The other day at Mom Masterminds, a member posted that she had a friend who wanted to learn how to make money online. The friend in question was a single mom of a 2 month old. She was asking for suggestions on what to tell this friend.

Yikes!
I feel for this mom already. I remember looking down at my 6 week old infant in my arms and thinking,

“I would rather sell my used underthings on eBay than go back to work and leave this child.”

I don’t mean to be crude, but that’s how I felt! I also wasn’t single at the time (although my income was sorely needed), so I can only imagine the stress. So I told her that if I had a friend in that situation I would say the following:

Scoop up $23 from the grocery budget or sell someting on eBay or borrow from Grandma. Then:

1) Register a domain – Pick a registrar. I like InternetBasedMomsHosting.com because my friend Alice Seba makes a quarter or two when I get a domain there, but you chould choose any one you like. Buy herfirstnamelastname.com $8

2) Get good hosting – I love Momwebs, $15 a quarter

3) Install a WordPress blog on the domain. Free.

4) Start blogging. Prolifically. Daily. Or more often. Find your voice. Find your passion, find your body of knowledge (everyone has one), find your target market, get readers and people following you, etc.

5) Market stuff as an affiliate.

6) Observe what your readers buy.

7) Rinse, repeat.

You know what’s funny though? When I read her query and then responded, I didn’t see the part about her being a single mom of a 2 month old! When I went back and read that, I realized that this mom might need some urgent, replace-a-paycheck type of money.

With that info in mind, I wrote another response. It read like this:

I would recommend she do some type of work at home job.

Nell Taliercio would be the gal to ask for information on that. Or if she has any kind of skill, she could do some Virtual Assistant work by the hour.

If *I* were in that situation knowing what I know now about making money online, I would immediately start marketing my services as a VA doing transcription or something else like it. Something that would give me immediate cash money in hand.

And I would build up my passive income on the side doing what I mentioned in post above, because although it takes a little time to build, every mom needs passive income especially when that baby starts to grow and take far fewer naps. ;)

So. I hope that is useful to you, especially if you’re new to this blog. And new to the idea of making money online. It really is quite simple, it’s just a lot of work, over and over again.

p.s. eBay doesn’t allow folks to sell their underthings anymore. Not that I would do that, ever.
I have a blog. See how it works? :-)

What are you doing January 12?

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

If you live in the metro Atlanta area, you won’t want to miss this offline event.

On January 12 (that’s a Saturday), I’ll be leading a workshop with Atlanta Networking Girls on Marketing Your Website Online.

This is a MUST for anyone who has a website or who is thinking about launching one to market their business on the Internet.

I probably don’t have to tell you that some among us have fallen for VERY expensive scams trying to get traffic (especially from search engines!) to our sites.

What if I told you that YOU can do a far better job of getting traffic to your site and it won’t cost you a DIME?

Get all the details here: http://atlantanetworkinggirls.com/workshops.html

See you there!

Book Review: The e Code

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

The E-Code: 33 Internet Superstars Reveal 43 Ways to Make Money Online Almost Instantly—Using Only Email

This is one of those books that, when I picked it up at Barnes and Noble one night, I found myself taking my trusty fine point Sharpie (it hangs off of my key ring – happiness is a good pen, no?) out of my purse and started underlining. Sometimes I just “bond” with a good book right from the start, and this was one of those times.

The e Code is written by Joe “Mr Fire” Vitale, a well known marketer who specializes in Hypnotic Marketing (no not literally, it’s just that the man knows how to pull your eyeballs out of their sockets and glue it to his copy). You may recognize his name from “The Secret”, but Joe has been around long before that got popular. He was also one of the first people to market online, and has been hugely successful doing so. I highly recommend you look into anything he offers!

Jo Han Mok is also a name many of you will recognize from Internet marketing circles. In addition, Yanik Silver, Terry Levine, Mark Joyner, Robert Bly, Ewen Chia and others contributed to the book.

While the word “instantly” may be a bit misleading (unless you have a huge email list or can joint venture with someone who does), the book offers rock solid advice for people who want to use only email to earn money on the Internet.

The e Code focuses on affiliate marketing and information products. It also covers launching ecourses and coaching and a bit of copywriting too. It only takes a few pages of reading this book to explode your mind to the possibilities.

The book itself (even if you don’t read it!) offers an incredible education in making money with little effort: similar to the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, the “authors” actually wrote very little of the actual content. What they did was gather stories and information that *other people* wrote and collected those together.

I tell women in my offline classes that ANYone can do an information product. You don’t have to be an expert. Just find them and interview them and you have a product to sell! In fact, the book was almost complete in one week’s time. And Chapters 25 and 30 explain how you can do the same thing: create an ebook with little or not writing, in just one hour.

In all, the book has articles written by 33 internet marketers. If you’re brand new to online business, it will spark some ideas. If you’re a seasoned internet marketer, it will spark some ideas.

Pick up a copy, I guarantee you’ll get excited.

I’m a Sweetie – Alice Says So

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

When Alice Seba said she had laminated copies of her 10 Commandments of the Internet Marketing Sweetie available to her blog readers and subscribers, I jumped right on it and emailed her my mailing address.

I’ve been a Sweetie student since that product was released, but I recently pulled it out of my files to re-read it. I was kind of surprised that I was doing a lot of the things that she recommends, even though I wasn’t aware of that consciously. I think I’ve just absorbed the Sweetie mentality as a result of associating with Alice at Mom Masterminds. :)

As an example, I’ve focused a lot in recent months on improving my target market’s experience by providing them with lots of great content. Having my podcast interviews transcribed into pdfs for people who prefer to read, adding tons and tons of informative pages and product reviews to my websites, creating free reports on hot topics, etc.

My Sweetie commandments arrived in the mail a few days ago and will have a permanent residence on my desk. Thanks Alice for being a great friend and mentor!
