Why Ebook Marketing Rocks

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Every month when I do the bookkeeping for my online business, I am thankful that I took the time to launch information products.

My information products add a very nice residual income stream to my business. They also provide leverage for me. Why? Because I can use them as assets in other ways.

For example, when a fellow business owner runs a contest, I can offer one of my products for additional exposure. I don’t have to create anything new, I just have to offer an existing product.

Even writing a guest blog post requires my time – this requires no time other than sending the winner a quick email letting them know where to download the product.

There are many other reasons by ebooks make a great addition to your business plan. Here are ten of them:

(And be sure to check out the coupon code below if you’re hesitant about writing your own ebooks!)

Top 10 Reasons eBook Marketing Rocks

eBook marketing is one of the most lucrative ways of making money on the Internet. It’s inexpensive to get started, there is minimal upkeep and the profit margin is huge. Whether you want to earn an extra few hundred dollars a month, or make a full-time income online, eBook marketing can be just the ticket.

eBooks are easy to create, sell and deliver and services like Mom PLR eBooks make it even easier.

Read on to find out the top 10 reasons eBook marketing rocks:

1. eBooks are popular.

Despite the so-called economic downturn, the demand for eBooks continues to increase. According to the International Digital Publishing Forum, sales of eBooks in the United States increased, from US$8 million in the fourth quarter of 2007 to over $17 in the last quarter of 2008. There’s no doubt that the demand for eBooks is high.

2. eBooks are easy to write.

You don’t have to be an expert or a writer to create and market your own eBooks. In fact, you don’t have to write them yourself. Services like Mom PLR eBooks create the eBooks for you, and all you have to do is to market them (and Mom PLR eBooks makes marketing easier, too).

3. eBooks are “green”.

Because eBooks are digital, they don’t require paper, ink and fuel to print, store and ship. This makes eBooks attractive to consumers, who are becomingly increasingly concerned about the environment.

4. eBooks are inexpensive to produce.

Because there’s no printing involved, all you need to produce an eBook is software to transform the text file into a PDF. This software is bundled in Mac computers, if that’s what you use, or is available inexpensively for Windows users. Plus, it’s super easy to update an eBook and make it more current, and you won’t be left with stockpiles of old or obsolete versions. That said, if your customers want a printed version of your eBook, you can easily make it available as well through print-on-demand services.

5. eBooks are cheap and easy to store.

If you were selling physical books, you would have to think of where to store all your stock. You could keep them in your house, or pay for storage space elsewhere. With eBooks, all you need is web hosting, which you can have for as little as $5 a month (and getting even cheaper). Plus, you don’t have to worry about protecting stocks from dust, rain, mold and rodents.

6. eBooks are free and fast to deliver.

You can “deliver” an eBook to your customer as quickly as you send Email. This is a big advantage, especially to customers who need to have the solution to their problems right now – like the Mom who is up at 2 am wondering how she can get her baby to sleep through the night.

7. eBooks can be consumed “on the go”.

Everybody’s so busy running around nowadays, and we like being able to bring information with us wherever we go. With a digital book reader or cell phone, your customers will be able to bring their eBooks with them anywhere. They’re much less bulky than printed books.

8. eBooks can be transformed into other information products.

From a marketing point of view, each eBook is a potential gold mine. You can: split it up into articles, short reports, or eCourses. You can transform it into audio and video. You can use it to provide regular content in membership sites. Or, you can combine individual but eBooks into “the ultimate resource” for your niche. As a member of Mom PLR eBooks, you’ll get a 5-day eCourse, newsletter topic ideas, and more tips for using and marketing your monthly eBook.

9. eBooks make it easy to cross-sell and upsell products.

A really cool feature of eBooks is they allow you to hyperlink to websites. This means you can add affiliate links to products or services that are relevant to the eBook’s topic. You could also link to other eBooks that you sell, including higher-priced products and continuity programs. This is why some marketers make money from giving away eBooks.

10. eBooks are interactive.

eBooks are going high-tech! You can now add audio and video files into them. You can insert a survey form that the reader can instantly submit via the Internet. All this makes for a richer experience with eBooks, which is sure to make them even more irresistible to consumers.

In short, eBook marketing is one of the easiest ways to earn passive income online and Mom PLR eBooks makes it even easier.

Two Things: An interview and be nice in what you ask for

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Two things I wanted to mention:

Crissy of Indie Biz Chicks asked me on her show to talk about the benefits of digital product selling in your business. If you do or if you don’t already have a digital product for sale on your website, listen in. We talked about some of the benefits of such, including:

  • Residual income – creating a product once and earning again and again
  • Varying the source of your income online – we all know how important it is to not put all your eggs in one basket
  • Reusing content you already own – you can create an infoproduct by gathering and expanding content you’re already using somewhere else.

And some other stuff. Go have a listen at Crissy’s site.

Secondly, I wanted to share an experience I had with an AT&T customer service representative yesterday.

I had a really huge phone bill this month. First I made three international phone calls (I interviewed a guest for my podcast who was from Ecuador and another was from Quebec.) but then I also noticed that I was being charged for a lot of calls to Audio Acrobat.

That didn’t make sense to me. I do my interviews by calling my guest and THEN dialing in to AA to record the call for me. Turns out I was charged both for calling the guest AND then for dialing AA!

I had no idea this was the case until I called AT&T. I could use my cell phone to do interviews I suppose, but I get poor reception at my home and I also don’t want to take a chance on getting staticky interviews.
I had free unlimited long distance on my old land line phone plan, but not here. So. I called and asked the customer sevice rep and talked with her (that’s when I found out about the double long distance charges!).

I had her sign me up for the unlimited long distance and then took a bold step.

I explained to her that I was a work at home Mom who made a LOT of long distance calls. I told her I was unprepared to pay this bill (it was double what I expected) and asked if she would make the unlimited long distance plan retroactive.

She put me on hold for a second and then came back and said that she would give me a significant discount on this month’s bill as well as a $50 cash back reward. :-)

I was actually shocked! I think there are a couple of reasons she was so willing to work with me.

Firstly, I was kind and respectful. Even though it irked me that I was being double charged for long distance calls (does that make sense to you?) to my Audio Acrobat account, I kept my tone friendly. After all, I doubt she’s responsible for that policy!

Secondly, I gave her a reason why. Studies have shown that when you take the simple step of explaining the reason WHY you need something from someone, they’re much more likely to try to oblige you.

I’m not sure what this has to do with being a work at home Mom or online business, but I just thought I would post it anyway. ;)

Making Your Ebook Even Better

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Have you written an ebook?

In my continuing efforts to “examine and improve” my existing projects this year, one of the things on my list is my first information product, the Natural Mom Business Guide.

It hasn’t been updated since 2007 and I would like to tweak it a little each year to make it better for my existing customers and future ones.

Things change on the internet. Some of the tools I recommend today I may not be in love with in a year. Marketing methods and tactics also change somewhat. I want the NMBG to continue to be an awesome tool, so to editing I go.

To that end, I’m pretty stoked that I have Jimmy D. Brown’s coaching to help me along. I’ve probably mentioned before that I’ve been a member of his List and Traffic membership site for over two years now. I consider it one of the best values on the Internet in terms of internet marketing!

You can get a free ebook here by Mr. Jimmy all about improving your ebook. This info is great whether the ebook in question has yet to be released, or not!

Get a copy of it here: 30 Writing Tips for Ebook Authors.

I’ll be reading this this weekend, along with some other juicy reports I own of Jimmy’s while I’m stuck in bed.

I’m having some surgery on my foot and Doctor’s orders – I can only get up for bathroom privileges for 3 days. I haven’t had that much rest since I gave birth last. ;)

Enjoy!

That Ebook You Don’t Have Time to Write

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

(In case the spamblockers ate this!)

Have you added your own information product to your business yet? Or are you too busy to take advantage of this extra income stream? I know I have a lot of ideas for more products but don’t have the time to write them all (and I don’t want to sacrifice all my initial profits on outsourcing the whole thing either).

For me personally, launching my first infoproduct, Natural Mom Business Guide, was a big turning point for me. While I was earning money from my content sites, my profit margin went way up and so did my overall income from that product.

The reason information products are so great for your business, is because it means that you only have to do the work once and you can continually make money from that same product over and over again.

Once you have it set up, it’s basically hands-off. Your shopping cart system will take care of all the orders automatically, even if it’s 2am. That means you have more free time to do the things you enjoy, without sacrificing your income.

It doesn’t matter what type of business you have, whether you sell physical products, services, or are an affiliate marketer, adding information products to your business is a great way to create passive income.

Unfortunately, it can take a lot of time and (or money if you’re going to outsource the writing) to create your own product, and if you’re currently running a business, then you may not feel as though you can pull it off.

However, there is a way that you can sell information products without investing a lot of time and money. You may have even heard of it . . . PLR eBooks. I’ve never come across a tightly
niched, HIGH quality PLR eBook membership, until now, and I’m very excited about sharing this.

Nell Taliercio and Melissa Ingold have teamed up to bring you the very first PLR eBook Membership for moms. Their membership is designed specifically for the mom market.
That means that every eBook is on a topic of interest to moms, which makes it super easy for you to sell these eBooks to the market you already have.

You can use this PLR eBook membership to create an extra stream of income without spending a ton of time or money. Each month you’ll have access to a quality PLR e-book, sales page, graphics, ecourse to promote your e-book, and so much more.

It’s literally a plug in business model. Go here: Mom PLR Ebooks

In addition, Alice and Mila of All PLR have just launched a bunch of new article packs you might want to check out, on Holistic Living, Homeschool, Toddlers, and more: All Private Label Content

Here’s to getting the autumn season started with a BANG!

7 Dollar Reports – Do you have one in you?

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

After reading Lynn Terry’s thoughts on 7 Dollar Secrets, I decided to purchase it and the follow up guide Write That Report (you get the first report free when you buy the second one).

I’ve been saying for a long time that everyone has an ebook inside of them. And I think these two reports will encourage a lot of people to get that knowledge out and into an ebook they can sell for income.

7 Dollar Secrets and Write That Report teach you how to research, create and sell your information products. The two together cost only $7 and they encourage you to sell your small reports for the same price.

The reasoning is pretty solid and make perfect sense to me: $7 is very affordable for anyone with an internet connection, and you’ll have better conversion rates with less returns. With higher priced products, people expect you to overdeliver in value, and this intimidates many potential infoproduct writers.

Most people will blow $7 on a latte and muffin at Starbucks without thinking. It’s a small enough amount that people will spend it on impulse. It’s kind of like the toys, flashlights and disposable cameras that stores keep by the register. Don’t you find yourself throwing one last thing into your shopping cart as you wait in the checkout line? I know I do.

The reports are well written and concise. There isn’t too much information that will cause you to get bogged down. They will be especially helpful to those who have never created an information product before and who may be intimidated by the process. The second report in particular breaks down the process of writing your ebook into a VERY simple process that anyone, even a 5th grader, could do.

The author explains the benefits of selling information online, as well as some common problems – including solutions as to how to solve them. This is what I found especially helpful about the reports – Jonathan explains hwo to overcome these problems, one of which I’ve experienced with my own ebooks. He also includes free sample scripts you can download and use to increase your sales.

Reading these has finally motivated me to launch a non internet marketing product that I wrote several months ago. It’s a topic near and dear to my heart that I didn’t want to charge for. I ended up launching a content site based on the information, but I really needed to create an ebook so all the information could be neatly packaged into one ebook. That’s one of the reasons people buy ebooks: Convenience.

I’m excited about getting started with my topic, and also using the unique method Jonathan recommends for getting affiliates to promote the product. It’s an approach I’ve not come across, but I can see why it would be extremely effective, for two reasons.

Anyway, if you’re like me and have been sitting on an idea for an ebook or special report and need some step by step help to get it launched, get 7 Dollar Secrets AND Write That Report now.
