Phase One: Who Gets MommyHobby.com?
September 17, 2007If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Have you listened to WahmTalkRadio yet this morning? If you’ve read this blog much in the last few weeks or are a subscriber to my newsletter (sign up box on the right if you’re not!), you know that I’m participating in Kelly’s FlipThatWebsite project.
She has worked her magic on an old site of mine that’s been seriously neglected, and now it’s vastly improved and ready for a new owner! The site is MommyHobby.com. If you want to know all the cool stuff Kelly has done to the site to make it ready for a new Mommy, go listen to the show.
So now it’s time for me to give it away! Here’s step one:
Leave a comment below explaining why you should be the new owner of the site. As Kelly mentioned on the show, we’re looking for someone who is serious and passionate about this topic of hobbies, and not for someone who “needs” a website.
Then in one week I will invite others to vote on the contestants.

What a great idea
I’ve been offline for some months now and therefore I haven’t been keeping up-to-date with your exine or blog.
Anyway, I’m a mummmy (mommy) of three kids ages 2, 4 and 10. I love hobbies, especially any that are craft related. I’ve always had several hobbies since I was a child and I’m trying to help my children find hobbies that they like (being children they want to do everything *lol*). I’ve always loved writing and collecting.
I’ve just moved for the 3rd time in 18 months and I’m hoping this will be the last move for a while.
I’m not sure what else to add.
anyway this is a fantastic idea

blessed be

There’s so much more that I can be,
That’s something I am beginning to see.
I am a dedicated wife, and mother,
Try to be respectful to others.
But lately I have had a need
To find something that is missing it seems,
It’s a business venture I’m working at growing,
But how I do need help to get it going.
Sitting in my lounge is a serger and sewer,
Some beads, Felt, yarn, and acrylic paints among others.
My dream would be to have a business that combines
All of these things and business success also in my life
I’m first to admit as a mother of 3
Time is something that more of I need.
You see, other than my family, my passions are
Craft and the internet by far.
I’ve always wondered how,
to combine both for business and fun.
A site like this would fulfill my dreams,
I am confident I’m the one.
I would pledge from the day I was owner,
To raise the site as if it were my own child,
To dedicate, time, finances and effort,
To absolutely enjoy and be dedicated, body, soul and mind.
I’m not an absolute internet wiz,
But I have a strong, keen mind and learn rather quick.
I have a business background, but now am a full time mum
And I have such a strong feeling, my life’s journey has just begun.
Not much more that I can tell you,
Except thankyou for your time, If you vote for me, I wouldn’t disappoint you.

I like your idea. Great website. I am a wham of 3 and always looking for crafts for the kids to do. I am into scrapbooking myself and a rep for a scrapbooking company.
I would promise to dedicate the necessary time to upkeep the website. To keep it fresh and put my heart into it.
I am not a computer wiz but am willing to learn what ever I need to. So if you pick me I will give it my all. Thanks for you consideration

My life has been full of making the most of each and everyday. As a young mother I was the victim of a hit and run which left me with serious facial injuries that were at the time disfiguring. At the time our children were 1,2 and 5 yrs. old. The accident lead us to adopt children with disabilites. That lead me to using my skills, abilities and knowledge in making money stretch. Yes, I am older then most of you and this was before the internet! I used my passion for crafting and hobbies to make an income that provided for the “fun things” of life. At this moment in time I had decided to start a blog on making toys from organic or recycled fabric and clothing. I volunteer in a first grade classroom to teach the children that art is not supposed to be “perfect”. It is an expression of our feelings at the time. Hobbies are the enrichment in life that allows us to deal with the daily ups and downs. Having this website will further my beliefs that hobbies should be an extension of our lives. This website will be driven by my beliefs and passion for life. My days are less complicated with only two kids left at home.

You know I have been to Mommy Hobby two or three times the last couple weeks hoping for Mommy Hobby to be complete. Mommy Hobby is such a great idea.
Imagine with me for a minute. A place for us moms to go where you can see new patters, find great links about your favorite hobby. Be able to enter your favorite baby sweater you knitted in a contest. Post that great Christmas present you have been working on and much more. A place where you can connect with other moms who share the love of your hobby as much as you do. Oh what an amazing and wonderful site Mommy Hobby is going to be. And then to do a Mommy Hobby Podcast on top of all that. WOW.
I have done so much soul searching to be sure that I should even compete to win the site. And it is something I would love to do.
I should give you a run down of me. I am a part time WAHM of three great kids (who are all in school now so that give me many hours in a day to dedicate to the site) who also have many hobbies of their own. A great husband that does some tinkering with hobbies.
My hobbies include:
Crocheting
Quilting
Sewing
Cross Stitching
Scrap booking
Beaded Jewelry
Poetry
Christmas Cookie baking
Reading
And I am sure I am have not listed them all. I also collect a few things too.
My children’s hobbies
Drawing
Crocheting
Jewelry Making
Friendship bracelet
Cross Stitching
And of course there are more I would love to learn.
I am not interesting in Mommy Hobby to make money. But I would like to win the website so that I can have a place to go that I can share my passions and hobbies with every mom out there who is like me and looking for somewhere to go and connect with other moms who share your passion. (and the money making would be just an added bonus)
Thank you.

Hi Bron here again
When I left my first comment the other night I didn’t think we needed to “pitch” about why we would like to win the site so I just gave a brief over view of myself. I did try to delete or edit the message to expand on things but couldn’t. So here is a little more about me
I am a 34 Aussie mum. Due to depression and other issues I have been trying to work from home for the past 7 years; selling handcrafted products made by myself. Over time I saw more and more crafters that needed somewhere to sell their wares/crafts and I wanted to offer them a place to sell their crafts too.
For one reason or another I have only been able to dabble in this. I do sell some of my crafts at a Sunday market but I still would like to integrate this with a website and web business.
I have just moved into a new place with my 3 children (yes I am a single mum). At least one third (if not more) of the boxes are labelled craft and that’s not including the kids stuff. I also have several boxes of craft magazines. Whatever we can save to be used for craft we do. I love to talk about craft, read about craft and I love to have the materials around me. It is one of my biggest passions (craft, family, community and paganism are my biggest passions).
I come from a family of crafters, and the love of my life (the father of my third child) is also from a family of crafters. It was our love of beads and beading that brought us together. While we may not be in a relationship anymore we remain friends and we also still share our love of craft.
I know many crafters and many of them have skills that can be passed on. In real life if we can get our relationship working again we plan to establish healing/community/teaching centre nearby and craft and hobbies will be a big focus.
Some of my hobbies include beading, aromatherapy, writing, collecting crystals, herbology, scrapbooking and more.
I know many mums that need outlets for their creativity and mommyhobbies would help many of them.
I’m not short on ideas for running mommyhobbies. I’ve made many mistakes over the past seven years and even that is an asset in many ways.
thank you for your time.
good luck to everyone
blessed be

Life is but a hobby. A fun chain of events that we creatively spin together to be the story of our lives. Creating the memories that will last for generations and creating ways to impress our values upon our children and our passions on ourselves.
Being crafty… could life be more full or fun?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
My family is not normal. My kids make finger puppets with masking tape and toothpicks. My husband wades through creeks finding beaver chewed sticks to make walking sticks from. I dabble in most any crafty or artistic realm I can find (crochet – even my own designs, painting, stamping, scrap booking, gardening, writing, . . . you can get the idea).
As much as I love to be creative, I’ve also come to love organization. Living in a small home, with limited space, has taught us to use what we have and to store things in unique and unusual ways.
Being a homeschool family and living off of one income (my husband’s public school teacher salary) we have also found easy, inexpensive ways to make great items for our home, garden, friends, and family.
For me, hobbies are not just about doing something to get it done. It is about expressing yourself in a new and creative fashion that actually leaves a part of yourself with the item (preferably not in reality). HobbyMommy would be a site that would help mother’s find creative ways to express themselves, guide their children to do the same, save a little time and money in the process, and maybe make a few bucks as well.
My initial goal would be to post daily on the site from several different categories (maybe rainy day crafts, seasonal ideas, mommy hobbies, family activities, and money saving tips to name a few). I would also want to find links to other helpful websites so that the site would become a one stop place for hobby lovers of all sorts.
Eventually, it would be great to have a shopping mall so that mommies who were interested would have a forum to sell the items that they created through their hobbies (I’d have to learn how to go about that one).
I hope that you will consider me to help grow and develop HobbyMommy.

Hi Carrie,
Once again I feel so honoured to be a part of such an amazing and generous opportunity. It is so lovely to see so many wonderful ladies who feel the same way about crafting as I do.
I have so many dreams and aspirations for mommyhobby, but regardless of who wins it sure seems that the site will be off to a wonderful start.
Kindest Regards
Loreena Walsh (Here is my full name for you, so sorry I thought it was in my profile)

Hi guys. I’m a designer illustrator in the Atlanta area. I participate in an Artist Trading card group. I’ve been drawing since I was three. My creative outlets include but aren’t limited to: polymer clay, ATC exchange, illustration, painting, photography, writting children’s books and a few other things. I also have recently started a business http://www.fairyme.com/ and have a blog about art and family at http://artgirlatl.blogspot.com/ Ladies i know you’ve spent a lot of time working on this , and I think you should choose me because I would continue to cultivate it and promote it to other creative moms in the weboshere.
