How Do I Get Inside the Mind of my Target Market?

Monday, September 10th, 2007

I hope everyone is starting off their week well this Monday morning!

Today on WahmTalkRadio, Kelly McCausey is talking about a new service she and Lynette Chandler of TechBasedMarketing are launching, called Easy Internet Survey.

Have you ever wanted to know just what your target market’s wants, needs, likes, dislikes, passions, questions and difficulties are?

How powerful would this kind of information be to your business?

*How much faster and easier would it be to create products?
*How much easier would it be to write informative content?
*How much easier would it be to be considered an expert?

Kelly and Lynette’s new service could help you do just those things. Have a listen as they explain how:

All On One Site or Multiple Domains?

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Hi Carrie,

Is it okay to sell drop ship natural products, ebooks, have articles and a blog all on one website?

Thanks,
Annette

Annette gave me permission to post my thoughts on her question here on the blog so here goes.

Since a blog is usually published to a directory on a domain, like carrielauth.com/blog, then there would be no problem publishing it on a domain with your other content. It would depend a little on the purpose of the blog however. Is the blog going to be mostly for product FAQs, announcements and updates? Or is it more of a place to publish personal thoughts and news that would interest your market? Which focus you decide to take with your blog will help you decide where to publish it.

When it comes to selling products (and I’m not sure if the ebooks mentioned are free or if you’re selling ebooks you’ve written, or as an affiliate), it’s usually best to do that on a website free from distraction. You don’t want your visitor to have to make too many decisions. Your products should be front and center. That doesn’t mean that adding articles and free information to your internet marketing strategy isn’t wise, however.

Publishing informative articles that educate your target market is a great idea, for several reasons. Articles bring in additional visitors to your website. They give your readers information that establishes trust in you as an expert. New articles keep visitors coming back for more.

But if you really want to spotlight your products and make more sales, you would probably be better off letting your products take the focus on a site of their own.

As an example, if I want to buy a product, would I go to a library, or to Target? And if I wanted free information, which one would I choose?

Now while I’m at the library, I might read a book that informs me that a product would meet my needs and make my life a little easier, and then I would head over to Target to buy it.

By the same token, when someone is on your content site (with all those wonderful articles) and sees you recommending a product, then you can send them to an individual product page on your other website. They’re all nice and warmed up and convinced that they need what you’re selling, and once they get there, they won’t be distracted by anything else.

Annette I hope that helps you a little. :-)

That Ebook You Don’t Have Time to Write

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

(In case the spamblockers ate this!)

Have you added your own information product to your business yet? Or are you too busy to take advantage of this extra income stream? I know I have a lot of ideas for more products but don’t have the time to write them all (and I don’t want to sacrifice all my initial profits on outsourcing the whole thing either).

For me personally, launching my first infoproduct, Natural Mom Business Guide, was a big turning point for me. While I was earning money from my content sites, my profit margin went way up and so did my overall income from that product.

The reason information products are so great for your business, is because it means that you only have to do the work once and you can continually make money from that same product over and over again.

Once you have it set up, it’s basically hands-off. Your shopping cart system will take care of all the orders automatically, even if it’s 2am. That means you have more free time to do the things you enjoy, without sacrificing your income.

It doesn’t matter what type of business you have, whether you sell physical products, services, or are an affiliate marketer, adding information products to your business is a great way to create passive income.

Unfortunately, it can take a lot of time and (or money if you’re going to outsource the writing) to create your own product, and if you’re currently running a business, then you may not feel as though you can pull it off.

However, there is a way that you can sell information products without investing a lot of time and money. You may have even heard of it . . . PLR eBooks. I’ve never come across a tightly
niched, HIGH quality PLR eBook membership, until now, and I’m very excited about sharing this.

Nell Taliercio and Melissa Ingold have teamed up to bring you the very first PLR eBook Membership for moms. Their membership is designed specifically for the mom market.
That means that every eBook is on a topic of interest to moms, which makes it super easy for you to sell these eBooks to the market you already have.

You can use this PLR eBook membership to create an extra stream of income without spending a ton of time or money. Each month you’ll have access to a quality PLR e-book, sales page, graphics, ecourse to promote your e-book, and so much more.

It’s literally a plug in business model. Go here: Mom PLR Ebooks

In addition, Alice and Mila of All PLR have just launched a bunch of new article packs you might want to check out, on Holistic Living, Homeschool, Toddlers, and more: All Private Label Content

Here’s to getting the autumn season started with a BANG!

Can you learn from these Big Time Marketers?

Friday, August 31st, 2007

One of the things I’ve learned lately is that in order to get a free marketing education, one simple thing you can do is simply to listen and observe the marketing that is going on around you all the time. What do you respond to? What pulls your strings?

And then use that knowledge in your own marketing. So the next time you get a free sample of Dove in the mail, read the copy a little bit more closely and become a student. :-)

Give a Site Some Love, Will Ya?

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

After Spring Cleaning coaching with Alice, and Flipping Websites with Kelly, and the Content Site Challenge going on at Mom Masterminds, I’ve been thinking lots lately about giving some of my neglected websites some love.

I already sold one site, am giving one away, and have a couple more to sell, but I have one or two that DO fit into my target market and that just need a little love.

One of these sites had a bad domain name so I bought a newer one that fits into my plan for the site as well as my target market. It didn’t have much traffic or ranking so it didn’t matter much, and it’s already getting some love from search engines despite the change.

What I love about improving an existing site is how FAST you can see results. It’s awesome to add a few new pages to a site that’s aged a bit in the search engines and immediately see some increased traffic and income from those pages.

I’ve already done a couple of things, like design a custom 404 error page. You can see an example here.

Then I linked to the site from one of my other sites, giving it another one way link. I also added a 5 day ecourse to one site, and added a second free report to subscribers. I sent a broadcast email to the existing list.

So here’s what else I plan to do to boost a couple of sites:

  • Write an article for each. Article marketing rocks and has been a consistent winner for me for marketing a website
  • Go through and edit some of the PLR articles on the site. I changed a bit here and there, but spending just a couple of minutes per page adding my own voice and a paragraph or two will improve my search engine rankings.
  • Add more affiliate offers to the autoresponder.
  • Find a way to link to the site’s internal pages from my blogs. As an example of this, I wrote about pet ownership on my blog today, and linked to a page of an existing site where relevant (using keyword rich link text of course).
  • See if I have any additional content (like my own articles, which I often forget to add to my own sites!) to add, including more PLR, transcripts of interviews from my podcast, free reports, etc.

There you go. Care to join me in my “Give a Site Some Love” challenge? I’ll link to you in this post. Leave a comment below with the website you plan on improving too, and it will get some immediate link love from me!

The LAST Hot Summer Interview Is Tonight!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Tonight is the last of the Hot Summer Seminar learning series, and the featured guest is Lynne Klippel from My Book School. She’s going to be talking about how to use what you know to create income from information products. Very cool topic.

If you haven’t yet listened to any of the programs, they’ve been informative and fun, and Kelly is even cutting the price of the Season Pass to $57.97!

It starts at 9:00pm Eastern. Just register on the site to get free access to tonight’s program.

The Season Pass gives you access to all recordings and transcripts from the entire summer – including awesome topics from Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero, Lynn Terry, Alice Seba and more.

Kelly is also having a prize giveaway after the session tonight, tossing out full price products and coaching – so possibly everyone will leave with a little something.

So Excited – Full Time Moms almost ready

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I mentioned the other day that I’m compiling success stories of moms who earn a full time living on the Internet.

I asked these 15 women the same 4 questions:

  1. What is your business?
  2. What are the top 3 things you’ve done to grow your online business?
  3. What is one mistake you’ve made and learned from?
  4. Was there a “tipping point” that got you to full time money? What was it?

What I found so interesting is that the answers were so similar – which proves to me that having success online is not about good fortune or even talent, it’s about smart decisions.

The ebook will be released on Monday here: Full Time Wahms

A New Brochure Page

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Do you have a “business card” site?

My domain at carrielauth.com has been so boring and blah and I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I wanted there to be one place that told people what I was about, as well as a place to publish articles I’ve written and a media area, but I just couldn’t seem to make it snappy.

Then Alice Seba inspired me with her Internet Marketing Sweetie page. So this is what I created: Carrie’s page. It’s kind of like a mini brochure that tells the visitor right away what I’m about and what I have to offer.

Tell me what you think! And thanks to Jen for putting it together for me.

How To Earn Full Time Money Online

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

In case you’re not signed up for my newsletter (horrors! Sign up using the box on the right…) I wanted to post this here.

I’m working on a really exciting project this week. It will be ready in a couple of weeks, but until then here is a sneak peek: Full Time Money

Do you want to know exactly what women who are marketing on the Internet do to get their business to a full time income level?

I was contemplating the other day how so many women, when they go looking for ways to earn money online, are inundated with information, and some of it is just plain BAD.

Often times the first thing they do is start hanging around at message forums asking “How do I….” and read the answers from others who are doing the exact same thing!

In other words, they’re getting answers from people who really don’t have any business offering business advice. Does that make sense?

So I’m grilling some of the top internet marketing Moms who got to full time money with their business and asking them the same 4 questions.

What do you do?
What are the top 3 ways you market your business?
What mistakes have you made and what did you learn?
Was there a “tipping point” that got you to full time money? What was it?

You know what is so interesting? Most of them are saying the exact same thing only in slightly different ways. :-)

Stay tuned – and sign up for the notification here: Full Time Money
