Do You Fall For These SEO Lies?

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I grabbed this SEO Lies report the other day when Lynn Terry over at Clicknewz.com recommended it on her blog.

For $1, you can get it too.SEO lies

It was a very interesting read. At the very least, it’s a basic guide to what SEO is all about. As I’ve said here many times, it’s not rocket science. Most of SEO is simply lather, rinse, repeat. It’s doing the same simple actions over and over again.

Once you get the basics, you hardly have to think about it anymore.

But what makes the report juicy is where he dispels some of the myths surrounding SEO – including the myth of duplicate content (he gives proof of his particular position on this issue and it’s compelling), and the “nofollow” tag myth.

This report is worth a LOT more than a buck. Go get your copy here.

What Can You Learn From Steve Pavlina’s Book?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I wrote a complete review of Steve Pavlina’s book on my other blog but I wanted to touch on some of the specific things in this book that apply to your internet marketing business.

Steve, unlike some other personal development authors I’ve read, actually seems to value hard work. His book deals with a lot of the practical aspects of meeting goals by changing your habits.

For instance, Chapter 3, which revolves around the principle of Power, suggests “Mastering the First Hour” in order to get control of the “rudder” of your day. It also introduces the concept of “Personal Quotas” and “Worst First“. These habits are pretty self explanatory and help you to gain mastery over your life.

I also love what he has to say about Goals, and not until I read this did I realize why I so often despise goal setting. In fact I’ve avoided setting goals for my business for a long time without really knowing why. Here is a quote:

The purpose of goal setting is not to control the future. That would be senseless because the future only exists in your imagination. The point of goal setting is to improve the quality of your present-moment reality. Setting goals can give you greater clarity and focus right now. Whenever you set your sights on achieving something, always ask yourself, “How does setting this goal improve my present reality?”

If it doesn’t improve your present reality, then the goal is pointless, and you may as well dump it. But if it brings greater clarity, focus and motivation to your life when you think about it, it’s a keeper.”

That makes a heck of a lot of sense to me.

Goals that are long term and end focused but that don’t bring you any happiness or sense of purpose NOW are no fun because they make life a drudgery, always a striving for the future but not enjoying the present. Which leads to struggle, procrastination, and failure.

The concept of Triage is fantastic. Steve suggests you categorize tasks this way:

  1. Projects that will fail to have a significant impact, whether you do them or not
  2. Projects that will succeed anyway, whether you do them or not
  3. Projects that will have a significant impact only if you complete them in a timely manner

Steve says that if you spend most of your time and energy on the tasks in the 3rd group, you’ll be most profitable.

Chapter 8 is my favorite because it gives you concrete examples (instead of abstract concepts) of things to do to improve your results and your life. One of these is the 30 Day Trial.

I’ve done a couple of these in my business. Most recently was the 30 articles in 30 days challenge. I’ve also done 30 blog posts in 30 days and other trials. These are fun because they’re challenging – but because you’re focusing on doing ONE activity for 30 days (instead of attacking a bunch of different things), they’re not overwhelming.

The chapter on Money is also fantastic for business owners to read. Steve is obviously a person of integrity, you can tell that right away if you read his blog for any length of time. In the world of internet marketing and blogging especially, people with integrity are more likely to build long term businesses.

What he has to say about creating value by being a “Contributor” instead of a “Moocher” is thought provoking for us as online business owners too.

There is a lot of great stuff in this book and I enjoyed reading it very much. Personal Development for Smart People is available on Amazon.

I Need Right Now Money

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I love having an online business, and will preach that from the rooftops to anyone who will listen. But there is a problem.

Sometimes people come to me because they need money NOW. Perhaps someone has lost a job or there is illness or whatever, there are different reasons for it but the solution is the same: Right Now Money.

Building an online business takes time, and for it to truly be a lifestyle business, you often have to reinvest your initial profits.

That won’t cut it for some people. There are circumstances that make that not doable. While I highly recommend building up a more passive income model alongside whatever else you’re already doing, if you need Right Now Money, there are several ways to get that.

That is another quick way of earning income.

If you need Right Now Money, VA work or transcription are a great way to go.

Two sources of information I recommend to help you get started making money now.

One is the How To VA guide put together by three gals I trust implicity for their knowledge: Nicole Dean, Jen Houck and Nell Taliercio.

Find it at: How To VA

These ladies all earn money offering their services to other business owners and have awesome advice for you. This guide even includes 5 templates to make it super easy to build your own website to showcase your services. Everything in one package.

There is another one I read that was created by the women over at Moms Talk Biz: Guide to Starting a Virtual Assistant Business

This one is a more “quick and dirty” info guide that you could read in an afternoon and get going. Great if you already have a website set up.

The second idea to generate Right Now Money is general transcription.

Not medical transcription which requires specialized knowledge. General transcription only requires ears and fingers and keyboard.

General transcriptionists are hired to transcribe all kinds of audio into text. For example, I hire a transcriptionist to type out my podcast interviews.

A nice transcription guide is also found at the Moms Talk Biz website: Guide to Starting Your Own Transcription Business

Don’t let your need for quick income deter you from working from home! It’s also not necessary for you to search for a work at home job either.

I think it’s easier to start your own service business and go out searching for clients rather than slogging through scammy work at home opportunities to find a real one.

Of course, once you decide to start offering your services you will need to market yourself and find clients. One of the best ways to do this is through networking. All of the people I’ve ever hired to do various things for me in my business came through word of mouth and networking.

I’m hearing great things about SheLancers to get more clients for your service based business. And of course, Mom Masterminds is a wonderful place to network with serious minded business owners. Get out there and do some offline networking too.

Now for your comments. What did you do when you needed Right Now Money? Share your tips!

FREE Private Label Rights Content

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Of course, there is a little bitty tiny catch. :-)

Have I told you lately that I love PLR? Private Label Rights content makes an internet marketer’s job so much easier. I use PLR in a variety of ways.

First, I edit it a little. This takes far less time than writing a new article from scratch. Far less.

Then, I:

  • Add it to my content websites and monetize with Google AdSense and affiliate links
  • Use it to create free reports to give away, monetized with affiliate links
  • Create infoproducts to sell
  • Give it to my affiliates to use in promoting my infoproducts
  • Add it to my autoresponders
  • Etc.

I would like to tell you about All Private Label Rights content, ok?
All Private Label Content
All PLR is owned by Mila Sidman and Alice Seba (and you know these girls don’t do no junk). I’ve been a member of ALL PLR since it’s inception. I get the Mom, Health, and Marketing content each and every month.

The value is MASSIVE, ok?

The price is very low for the quality. They also offer a variety of article packs in addition to the monthly memberships. They even have PLR press releases so you really have no excuse not to send out press releases either!

You can take a look at all they have to offer here:
All Private Label Rights Content

Here’s where the FREE part comes in.

I am offering two free PLR articles that you cannot find anywhere else. (In fact I wrote ‘em!) I will give you these two articles absolutely FREE if you buy at least ONE article pack, membership or whatever from All PLR.

All you have to do is this:

  1. Go to All PLR and pick out your stuff
  2. Forward your receipt to me at carrie at carrielauth dot com
  3. Wait a bit for me to email you back with your two free PLR articles

Easy peasy!

Now go forth and plr:-)

I Recommend Two Affiliate Marketing Products

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I am having a fantastic Monday and I hope you are too!

I’ve been packing up the last of my belongings in preparation for an upcoming move, and while I pack up my office I’ve been listening to the Moms Affiliate Expo recordings.

Did you miss the live event? This training is wonderful. You can check it out here: Moms Affiliate Expo

I’m listening to affiliate superstars like Lynn Terry (who I credit with teaching me how to launch my very first affiliate site!), Alice Seba (who I’ve also coached with, her Affiliate Marketing Sweetie product has so far been the only one I’ve recommended on the topic) and many more.

There are also a few audios for brand new beginners that take you step by step through the process of getting started.

Check it out – affiliate marketing is how I earn my income online and it’s a wonderful business model. Before now, I only recommended one product to help you learn affiliate marketing.

Now I can recommend two. :)

2 Price Hikes You Need to Know About

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

There are a couple of resources I mention here over and over again. And perhaps you’ve thought in the past about using one or both of these resources.

Well, now would be a great time to get off the fence and make a decision, because both of them are going to go up in price soon.

I’m talking about Mom Masterminds and WahmCart.

Mom Masterminds is going through some exciting changes. For one, the “graduate” program is expiring, and this means that members will no longer enjoy free membership after one year or 18 months like they do currently.

JOIN NOW if you have been considering joining! You’ll be grandfathered in at the current structure, meaning you’ll graduate after 18 months and get free membership for a lifetime.

Another change at MM is the resources that will be available. MM has long been one of the best deals on the Internet (read: it’s a STEAL). The Premium learning resources will no longer be available as part of membership. These are a few tools that are available for purchase outside MM.

JOIN NOW if you have been considering joining and you will be able to download these resources – collectively worth hundreds (thousands? I haven’t done the math) of dollars – before they disappear.

Note: The price of the monthly subscription to MM once these changes take effect will actually go DOWN… but since the graduation program will be no longer, your actual lifetime price will go UP. Clear as mud? :)

WahmCart is experiencing a price hike on August 15th – from 29.99 a month to 39.99 a month. Good grief, 39.99 is still a great price for all that WahmCart offers, but again:

JOIN NOW if you’ve been considering joining and you’ll enjoy the current price forever.

Read more about what I’ve said in the past about WahmCart and Mom Masterminds and feel free to ask questions below:

AdSense Microscope

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

UPDATE June 2008: Adsense Detective is no longer accepting customers. I now use a tool that is superior to A.D. called AdSpy Tracker. It provides more information and is a ONE time investment, not a monthly recurring charge. Read my review here: AdSpy Tracker

I signed up for Adsense Detective 3 months ago and wanted to test it thoroughly before making a recommendation here.

Here’s my honest opinion: I love it.

You’ve heard from everyone that you need to track your AdSense clicks in order to maximize your earnings. What are people clicking on, what ad size and color scheme do they like best, what placement, what pages, what sites, etc. If you have a lot of websites this could be a full time job! And yet if you want those really big AdSense checks, it’s necessary.

Enter AdSense Detective. It’s like someone put your site under a microscope and tells you with the click of a button:

where they click
when they click
what ad sizes and color schemes are working best
what pages they get click happy on
what pages need work

It even tells you where they land after they click.

AdSense channels can be a pain to work with when it comes to tracking especially if you have a lot of sites and want to track a lot of different variables.

Adsense Detective is so easy to use. All you do is insert a bit of javascript code (like a statcounter code) into your page. Since I use XSitePro, I only had to add it ONCE to my scripts page and it tracks everything, sitewide.

So far I’ve been able to “find” a couple of hot niches and turned those into 3 new sites based on the info I’ve learned from Adsense Detective.

And here’s a neat tip for you: If you find out what your most popular clickin’ pages are, you can build a little box on your home page that says “Favorite Pages” or “Favorite Articles” or “Don’t Miss” or something like that to funnel traffic to these performing pages.

Click here to go to AdSense Detective. Highly recommended, and very inexpensive too!
