Offline Days Can Be Productive Too

We had some pretty severe weather here in Georgia last weekend. I woke up at around 3 AM and thought the large bay window near my bed was coming in on me because there was marble sized hail beating down. It was scary -but we’re fine.
There were tornadoes in the area but the only damage we sustained was our treehouse collapsing in the front yard. I’m sad about that but perhaps we can salvage it and turn it into a play house instead.
I did lose power, telephone and therefore internet for a couple of days. It was disappointing at first because my kids were at their Dad’s, and I usually get a lot of work done during that time. But I remembered that the last time something like this had happened, and it turned out to be the day I wrote most of my first information product.
So I just restrategized. :-) And here’s what I got done:
- Wrote five new articles from scratch
- Strategized action plans and made to do lists
- Made notes on topics to write about later
- Added pages to two websites to publish later
- Typed out several new recipes for my whole foods recipe site (and these I can submit to other websites for incoming links)
- Cleaned up my desktop
- Edited some PLR articles that were waiting to be published
- Created a new PLR mini pack for Natural Mom Plr
- Gathered some stuff in my office to sell on eBay, did some decluttering
Have you ever had a busy day in your online business when you were offline?
Let’s hear about it:

Wow you were busy - in the best way! I haven’t had one of those productive days while being offline, but I sure could use it. Since we are always online it’s probably a really good idea to “unplug” so to speak at least once in a while so that we can have a fresh perspective on our work.
In my community we often have faith retreats where we just shout out the external everyday noise and take a look at what’s going on in our lives. I just realized with your post that my business needs that as well.
Thanks!

Carrie,
It sounds like you were really busy and PRODUCTIVE! That’s great that you were able to regroup and not let the obstacles slow you down.
I know what you mean - I can get quite distracted online. I think maybe an offline day might be good for me too.

WOW! Busy girl. I try to have a day like this once a week but it has been a while. Thanks for confirming my need to do it more.

It’s a shame we often have to be forced offline in order to get other things done. But it’s true for me too. When I can’t get online I go into another mode and get a lot done ( not as much as you did in one day,) but a lot.
I’m working on staying off the Internet more for this very reason.
Thanks for sharing this story.

Hi Carrie,
What a great lesson in how to make the best of things when things aren’t great. I think you even surprised yourself.
This reminded me of what I have to do 2 nights a week that takes me away from my computer. My daughter takes ballet and is there for up to 3 hours sometimes. Besides doing some errands I get a lot of business planning done. I take notebooks and ebooks and lay everything out in my car and get some of my best work done. I get lots of ideas and write articles and outlines for what I want to put on my website. I’m sure I also get a lot done since I don’t have all the distractions from people and things that I have at home

Great post Carrie! Thanks for reminding me that when things don’t go as planned that you still can be productive. The other day when I was without internet I never even thought about sitting down and writing out to do lists, make plans or even grab a notebook & pen and start writing. Instead I moaned and complained about how much inconvenience no internet was! I’ll definitely keep this in mind for the next time internet goes out and I think it has to ruin my whole day - it doesn’t and I can be productive.
You accomplished a lot during the ‘down time’ and that’s so awesome!
