Changes in Store for Natural Mom Business Guide

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Many of you who read this blog may be on my affiliates list, so sorry if this is redundant. I wanted to make sure you heard about it if you’re an affiliate. And you know how sometimes good email gets lost in the spammy filters. :)

Firstly, I added several new articles for you to publish on your website in order to promote the Natural Mom Busines Guide. You can see them here (newest ones are at the top). Feel free to use these as you wish, and be sure to replace the url at the end with your affiliate link. I’m also creating some pretty new graphics for affiliates too if you like to use those.

Secondly, I’m coming out with a new product soon that will meet the needs of people who do NOT already have an online business. If you’re not familiar with the Natural Mom Business Guide, it’s a complete tutorial for those who want to make a full time income online in the “natural family” market. It contains an ebook, audio and video tutorials, printable cheat sheets and more. It’s huge!

What I noticed however is that everyone who purchases it already has an online business. They’re looking to earn more money… they want to know how to market themselves more and so that’s why they buy the product.

But it might seem overwhelming to someone who has no idea what they want to do and doesn’t think they know how to build a website. So this new product will have very basic, step by step beginner information… for instance, how to set your nameservers, how to navigate cpanel, etc.

It will also be a lower priced item for someone who is brand new and isn’t turning a profit like an existing website owner.

So look for an announcement about that here. If you haven’t already signed up as an affiliate, you can do that HERE.

Mom, Are You Getting Paid Now?

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

My 6 year old Julien isn’t really sure how I make money online, but he knows that it has something to do with typing. He will often come up to me and ask, “Mommy, are you making money right now?”

I’ve explained to him that I don’t make money every time I sit down at the computer (for instance, checking email and stats and stuff doesn’t earn me a dime), but that when I am typing things (writing articles, blogging, etc), I’m earning money. So now when he sees me typing away, he asks, “Mom, you’re typing. That means you’re making money!” So cute. ;)

Well, I recently found another way to make money when I type. Lynn Terry, whose blog I have been faithfully following since she launched it, wrote about a company called Pay Per Post recently. Now this wasn’t the first time I had heard about PPP, but her blog post made me sit up and pay attention! You can read her post here. Go ahead, I’ll wait. :)

Did you notice that she earned over $1500 in her spare time with PPP? Now, I know Lynn to be a person of character. Her advice has never steered me wrong and in fact I have credited her here before for being the person who helped me launch my very first affiliate site which became immediately profitable. While you’re at her site, go ahead and add her blog’s RSS feed to your reader. She always has valuable advice to share.

Now, there are several ways you can make money blogging. This is just another sweet little way of going about it.

In a nutshell, you sign up for a free account and enter your blog for consideration. Then after pasting some code into your blog’s html, you look at all the opportunities available for you to get paid.

The advertisers are willing to pay you to talk about them! The payments vary. Some are a couple of bucks, some are a whole lot more.

But here’s the thing: Blogging, even when you’re talking about someone else’s business, is still smart for your overall marketing efforts. Why?

Because you’re giving your blog visitors something interesting to read (after all, you’ll be choosing opportunities that are appropriate to your audience) and adding search engine food to your blog which will in turn only bring in more visitors.

It’s a nice deal all around.

People who launch a blog on their site often have the dilemna of “don’t know what to blog about”. Logging into your Pay Per Post account and viewing the opportunities to earn money posting to your blog sounds like a great way to overcome writer’s block, no?

Take a look at Pay Per Post and see what you think. :)

So Easy, a 9 Year Old Can Do It

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

I think many times, people assume that running an internet business is difficult or requires some rare technical skills. I beg to differ.

The principles of internet marketing are very simple! In fact, a 9 year old can learn it. I know because I have a 9 year old of my very own who is earning money from his blog. :)

He started a blog at my (nagging) encouragement. He is an avid reader and posts book reviews to earn some extra cash from Amazon.com sales and the Google AdSense program. His audience is the homeschooling crowd… homeschooled kids who read books and parents who buy them.

Lesson #1: Pick a target market and provide valuable content

Writing a lot of excellent content all by your lonesome is not easy for anyone, much less a young kid, so a couple of days ago he added about 30 private label rights articles and product reviews on his website.

It was so easy that he’s now excited about doing this on a regular basis to increase his earnings.

Of course, Mom has taught him that just *having* a website is not enough. You must constantly be marketing yourself. So I sat down with him and he wrote his first article. You can see it here. Then I submitted it to EzineArticles.com, a popular online article directory. Now other website owners will publish it for him, increasing his search engine ranking and giving him lots of click through visitors.

Lesson #2: Persistent Marketing is Everything

If you can get these two things right, you’re all set. Content and marketing are, in a nutshell, how to have a successful online business.

If you don’t know how to build a website, start small and start a blog like Caleb did. The interface of Worpress and Blogger are so easy to use that Caleb understands it. You can too. :)

And another thing about Private Label Rights content:

You may already know that PLR content is great for adding content to your websites and blog, but did you know you can do a LOT more with PLR?

I’ve bragged before about Alice Seba & Mila Sidman’s All Private Label rights membership before (read some of the posts below). Now these two have put together a very handy and easy-to-reference guide with 20 strategies to help you make the most of PLR content.

You can grab your own copy by clicking here.

I’m a Sweetie – Alice Says So

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

When Alice Seba said she had laminated copies of her 10 Commandments of the Internet Marketing Sweetie available to her blog readers and subscribers, I jumped right on it and emailed her my mailing address.

I’ve been a Sweetie student since that product was released, but I recently pulled it out of my files to re-read it. I was kind of surprised that I was doing a lot of the things that she recommends, even though I wasn’t aware of that consciously. I think I’ve just absorbed the Sweetie mentality as a result of associating with Alice at Mom Masterminds. :)

As an example, I’ve focused a lot in recent months on improving my target market’s experience by providing them with lots of great content. Having my podcast interviews transcribed into pdfs for people who prefer to read, adding tons and tons of informative pages and product reviews to my websites, creating free reports on hot topics, etc.

My Sweetie commandments arrived in the mail a few days ago and will have a permanent residence on my desk. Thanks Alice for being a great friend and mentor!

Counting My Home Business Blessings

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Kelly McCausey asked for people to blog about what they’re thankful for … what blessings they enjoy as a result of their home businesses. Here’s my partial list. I’m sure if I thought about it more I would come up with tons more!

  • The ability to be my kid’s primary caretaker is the big one.
  • I also love being able to spend my time doing what I want to do… it’s work but it’s also enjoyable.
  • I like being able to take off in the middle of the day to head to the park or take the kids out for lunch or on a field trip, and get my work done at other times. Flexibility! I can work hard while my kids are with their Dad or Grandparents, take the laptop to Barnes and Noble and sip coffee while I work, or stay up late and work when I can’t sleep. It’s my choice. I’m very self motivated and love working for myself.
  • I earn 2 1/2 times what I earned at my full time job that I left when my first kid was born.
  • And I also enjoy quite a bit of passive income which I never had before!

I’m very very thankful! What about you? What blessings has your business brought your way?

How Do I Research An Affiliate Program?

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Yesterday a subscriber to my newsletter asked me this question:

How do you recommend researching an affiliate program? I want to assure that any affiliate program that I join, the retailer delivers goods and/or services and pays as promises.”

I thought this was a really good question and wanted to post my answer here.

Finding affiliate products to promote is actually quite easy. Many companies in all types of markets are aware of the benefits they receive with having an affiliate program and are offering one. But if you’re concerned about promoting a product that doesn’t live up to its promises, or are concerned about the affiliate manager not paying you (a valid concern!), here are some tips.

  • Buy the product and experience its benefits. If at all possible, buy and review the product first. An honest testimonial that shows how you benefitted in some way from the product is very valuable, it comes through in your words. This would be especially important for a recommendation you make on your blog or that you send out to your newsletter subscribers.

But realistically, you might not be able to do this with every single product you want to promote, nor do you have to. For instance, I have a site all about pretty nursing bras. I’m a breastfeeding Mom, so I know what makes a good nursing bra. I’ve bought and worn a couple of the styles I promote on that site, but not all of them. But my knowledge of the product in general is enough for me to know that I’m promoting a quality product to my target market. I don’t claim to have personal experience with each style however.

  • Go through an affiliate network. The companies that use an affiliate network to manage their program have to jump through some hoops to qualify to have their product advertised in the network, and they also have to be well funded. Some good places to start your search are listed here.

The caveat with these programs is that they almost always pay less than independent programs, because they have to give the network a cut of the action. So you trade a few commission percentage points for security.

  • Ask around on message forums. Ask some of the people in your network who are promoting affiliate programs which ones they recommend and have experience with. Some of these will have their own affiliate program. If they’re a part of the community, they have an interest in keeping a good reputation as an affiliate manager. As you form relationships with other online business owners, you’ll know who you can trust.

Mom Masterminds has been a great place for me to find affiliate programs to promote, because I know the women who own them. They will often let me review the product for free to put my stamp of approval on it, or arrange a steep discount for me as a MM member.

  • Ask the affiliate manager for a review copy. Of course, they can’t give everyone who asks a free product because then everyone would join the program just to get the free product. But, often a product owner will give you a copy for review if you promise to write a good testimonial, or can prove you have a large marketing list to promote to, or are willing to otherwise show you’re serious about promoting their product. Try writing a heartfelt email and asking.

Still, I don’t want to give the impression that finding good affiliate programs you can trust is difficult, because it isn’t. I’ve never once had trouble with an affiliate manager not paying me or not paying on time. I have heard of it happening, but it’s extremely rare. One click of the “publish” button and marketers could expose the program and the owner as a fraud! Most of them just don’t want to go there. :)

Tons and tons of free publicity for the taking

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Silly Blogger! For some reason this post ended up way down at the bottom of my blog when I just published it today, July 1. So I’m pasting it here again because I don’t want you to miss hearing about this :)

Penny Pinching Publicity is a private monthly membership forum owned by Shannon Cherry of Be Heard Solutions. I joined as a member a little over a month ago and wanted to test it out before mentioning to you all. So far, I’m very impressed with the value Shannon provides with PPP. My membership has saved me money and time so far, both with crafting my releases and submitting them online.

Participants are taught the insider secrets of working the media by Shannon, who is an expert in Public Relations and Marketing. While I’ve been doing press releases with good effect since 2004, now I feel confident that I’ll be able to generate even more free publicity and establish a relationship with the media, both local and otherwise.

The forum provides a place to ask questions about how to pitch a story to an editor, and get feedback on your marketing efforts from Shannon and the other members… this is really valuable when writing a release. Sometimes others can point out things that aren’t obvious to us, but that can hamper our efforts.

Shannon provides hot leads that members can follow up on to try to get media coverage, a free press release each month that can be edited by members (and this is worth well more than the monthly membership fee!) , notices about changes in the media and a monthly report with tips and tricks to help small business owners get lots of free attention and publicity. She also gives members a checklist to help them submit their release.

Shannon even includes a media list with 350 publications to send your release.

I have found the membership to be extremely valuable so far, and am looking forward to continually learning how to leverage publicity for more traffic and sales. The free monthly press release alone is worth far more than $19.95. Shannon provides a lot of value for a very low price.

Many of us have used press releases to get free publicity, but we no doubt are making costly mistakes and handicapping ourselves. It’s extremely valuable to learn the ins and outs from an expert. Anyone who wants to get a lot of marketing bang for their buck should consider joining.
